My hometown: Eger
My hometown is called Eger. It is a small town, which is situated in the north-eastern region of Hungary. It has 56000 inhabitants, and it is the county-seat of Heves county. It lies right at the foot of the Bükk mountain, and it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.
The history of Eger
Eger is very famous for its history. It played an important role in the war against the Turkish army in the 16th century. The Eger castle was defended by István Dobó and many other famous people, including lots of women.
Entertainment and free-time activities
Eger has a wide range of entertaining facilities. It has a famous theatre, two cinemas and a huge library. It has many restaurants, pubs and clubs.
Eger is most famous for its wine. You can try all kinds of wines here, from dry to sweet, and red to white. A very popular tourist attraction is Szépasszony Valley, which is full of wine cellars.
Architecture and important sights
Eger is noted for its beautiful architecture. The most amazing buildings are the castle, the cathedral and the main building of the college. There are many other churches, statues and people very often gather at Dobó square, which is the main square of the town.
Why I like Eger
I like Eger, because I think this is the most beautiful town in the country. Dobó square and Széchenyi street look gorgeous at Christmas. Eger has a great college, and it has a really busy student life.
I can always go for a walk in Érsek garden, where the air is clean, and sometimes I can see squirrels jumping from one tree to another. Transportation is very simple in Eger, so you can get everywhere within a few minutes. Local buses travel every 5 minutes, so just have to get on one.
Disadvantages of the town
However, there are a few things which I dislike about my hometown. For instance, the bus station is very crowded and sometimes it can be dangerous. It is difficult to make money here, because there aren’t enough workplaces. The hospital also has a bad reputation, but there are signs of improvement.
My future in Eger
I am totally sure that this is the place I want to grow old in. I also want my children to grow up here, because this is a very happy small town, where every day is like a gift.
Hasznos változat egy másik kisváros bemutatásához
I live in a beautiful, small town called Tiszafüred. It is not far from river Tisza. A lot of tourists visit this place year by year, and they wonder about the nature. About 12.000 people live here.
We have got 2 churches, a Catholic and a Presbyterian. There are 5 schools, a secondary technical school, a secondary grammar school and 3 elementary schools. There are 3 kindergartens, too.
Because of the tourists, there are about 10 really good restaurants, where you can choose about all kinds of foods. In summer, people always go to the famous thermal spa, or they swim at the beach in river Tisza.
There is an old castle, too, called Kemény Castle. You can visit it or one of the museums if you are interested in old things and the history of this place. If young people want to go out with their friends, they go to the local discos and cafés, or they go to the nearby cities.
Egy egyszerűbb „My Town” változat
I live in a small town near Budapest. It is quiet. I like it! There are hills and mountains around the city. The houses in our street are small and old. There aren’t any sky-scrapers of course!
On our town there are four schools. There is also a sports centre with a swimming pool. Our school is just opposite the sports centre. It’s cool!
The supermarket is between a clothes shop and a newsagent’s. These are not expensive shops. Opposite the supermarket there is a café, a hairdresser and a small hotel.
The church is in the town center. Opposite the church there is a small italian restaurant and a bank. Next to the restaurant there is an interesting shop with creative gift ideas. It is not cheap but exciting! This is my favourite shop in the town. I also like the pet shop!

A ház bemutatása
A „My Town” témakör könnyen összekapcsolható a „My House” vagy a „My Home” témával is. Ilyenkor a lakóhely bemutatása után el lehet mondani, milyen házban vagy lakásban élünk, milyen helyiségek találhatók benne, és milyen a kert vagy a környék.
I live in a two-storey detached house. There are some trees in front of our house. There is a small garden with a wooden fence behind the house. We have got a loft, a garage and a cellar too. It’s a renovated house, but we always have some work with it!
On the roof we have got a skylight. In the garden we grow vegetables and we have some fruit-trees. In the house we have got central heating.
On the first storey there are two bedrooms, a sitting room, a bathroom, a toilet and a big kitchen with a larder. In my room I have got a single bed, a desk, a wall unit and a bookcase. My mother’s room is similar.
We have got a parquet everywhere except the kitchen and the bathroom. In the kitchen there is a cooker, a fridge, a sink, a cupboard and a microwave oven. The washing machine is in the bathroom, where we have a washbasin, a bath and a bathtub.
The second storey is the same. The attic is not habitable, but we are planning to buld it up.
