1. Technical devices in everyday life
I have a smartphone and I love it. I listen to music, record videos, play games, surf the net, pick up and send e-mails, and make calls, of course. We have two computers at home: a notebook and a desktop computer.
The problem is that we always want to use them at the same time. There are four of us in my family. You can imagine the situation. My father has his own notebook.
Another problem is that it is not the latest configuration and it is quite slow. I use “my” computer every day. I usually spend 2 hours a day using it.
I check my emails, surf the net, chat with my friends, watch films and listen to music. Sometimes I use the word processor for writing essays or print photos.
2. The importance of the internet
You can find information about all kinds of things on the Internet, so it is very useful. You can read the weather forecast, TV and radio programmes, and you can book cinema tickets, flight tickets or hotel rooms.
You can download your favourite books, films or songs. Using the Internet has created great opportunities in education. You can find a lot of books online.
The Internet also provides a rich source of materials when you want to practise the foreign language you learn at school. Television is not only a form of entertainment but also a source of information for a significant number of the population.
In the developed world the internet has taken over the role of television as a source of information for the younger generations, while providing entertainment as well.

3. Mobile phones and communication
A mobile phone is no longer used only for making calls. With a smartphone, people can listen to music, record videos, play games, browse the internet, send e-mails and communicate through different applications.
The main advantage of having an internet connection during your stay abroad is, on the one hand, the possibility to communicate with friends and family at no additional costs, and on the other hand, access to online banking and other services.
Human beings by and large are social. They feel an inherent need to connect and expand their connections. Social media helps the youth and any other user stay updated with what is happening around the world.
It helps teenagers stay connected and interact with each other even if they are many miles apart. This strengthens their relationship, and even if they finish school and move to different locations, they stay connected and update one another.
4. Social networking sites
I log on to Facebook every day to chat with my friends. I often update my profile, upload photos and post messages. The most popular social networking sites are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Social networking sites make communication quick and convenient. People can share photos, messages and information, follow current events and keep in touch with friends and relatives who live far away.
However, social media also has disadvantages. People may spend too much time online, and personal information or photographs can be shared without sufficient care. It is important to think carefully about what we post and with whom we share it.
5. Advantages of computers and the internet
Computers and the internet are useful in education, communication, work and entertainment. We can write documents, print photos, watch films, listen to music, search for information and communicate with other people.
With the help of these things we can easily get any kind of information in no time. Everybody and everything can be reached very quickly, and our lives have become quicker.
The internet also makes everyday administration easier. People can book tickets, reserve hotel rooms, use online banking services and access many other services without leaving their homes.
Television and high-speed internet have become a necessity for many people in the 21st century. Many television shows are subtitled for people with hearing difficulties, which is also very useful for language learners.
6. Disadvantages and dangers
Unfortunately, a lot of people spend too much time in front of their computers instead of reading books, doing their homework or being in the fresh air. Excessive screen time can reduce the time available for studying, physical activity and face-to-face communication.
Using the Internet can cause other problems too: teenagers can download films or music without a licence, or download computer viruses, which can damage the whole computer system.
Another danger is that people can become dependent on their devices or social networking sites. They may constantly check their messages, spend too much time playing games or lose concentration during their studies.
It is also important to protect personal data and use strong passwords. We should be careful when opening unknown links or downloading files from unreliable websites.
7. Internet connection at home
The two main types of internet are cable internet and DSL, or digital subscriber line. Whichever you pick, you will need a cable modem or a DSL modem that is plugged into a wall socket.
You can either buy one or pick a provider that offers modems for rent or for free, depending on your package. More and more people need wireless internet for their tablets or phones, so a Wi-Fi router is also useful.
If you would like to use two desktop computers or connect your laptop for a faster connection than through Wi-Fi, an ADSL splitter will sort the problem.
Depending on the status of the network, connecting your home to the internet may take days or weeks, which can be frustrating. In such cases, the best solution is to buy a USB stick, also called a dongle, which provides broadband internet on a pay-as-you-go basis.
8. Television and internet services
You can typically order a cable television subscription from various providers after checking their offers and packages. If your home has a cable TV socket available, there is no need to send a technician, as setting up cable TV is quite simple nowadays and the service is switched on remotely.
Many shows are subtitled for people with hearing difficulties, which is also very useful for language learners. You can also improve your English if you pick a service that can record TV shows, so you can replay the parts that are difficult to understand.
Television can still be an important source of information and entertainment, especially for elderly people who often have trouble reading newspapers. For younger generations, however, the internet is often the main source of information.
9. How I use technology
I use my computer every day, usually for about two hours. I check my emails, surf the net, chat with my friends, watch films and listen to music.
Sometimes I use the word processor for writing essays or print photos. I also use the internet for studying, looking for information and practising foreign languages.
I use my smartphone for listening to music, recording videos, playing games, browsing the internet, sending e-mails and making calls. It is convenient because I can take it with me everywhere.
10. My opinion
In my opinion, computer technology and the Internet mean a great revolution in our lives. They provide quick access to information and make communication much easier.
At the same time, people should use these devices responsibly. It is important to find a balance between online activities and real life, including studying, physical exercise, reading and personal communication.
The internet and mobile phones are very useful tools, but they should not control our lives. If we use them carefully and in moderation, they can make our everyday life more comfortable, efficient and interesting.
