TV vs cinemaI think reading is a very useful pastime. I like reading interesting books because I can relax with it.People go to a library to borrow books and cassettes, read newspapers and magazines, photocopy materials, listen to music and use computers. It’s oftener that we buy the newspapers. In Hungary there are local and national daily papers. The local papers tend to concentrate on the news of the county and write only short articles on world and national news. As for the national daily papers, there are two basic types. One is quality papers which focus on more serious issues and try to cover all kinds of topics. Newspapers belonging to the other group, tabloids, concentrate on sensational news, such as murders, tragedies and stories on famous people. The headlines are sometimes provocative, using big letters. The articles are short and there are lots of pictures.
The British are a nation of newspaper readers. Many people even have a daily paper delivered to their homes in time for breakfast.British newspapers can be divided into two groups too: quality and popular (tabloid). Quality newspapers are more serious and cover home and foreign news thoughtfully while the popular newspapers like shocking, personal stories as well as some news. These two groups of papers can be distinguished easily because the quality newspapers are twice the size of the popular newspapers.Of course the press means more than newspapers. A vast range of magazines and weeklies is published, aimed at readers interested in all sorts of subjects. In fact, there are magazines for practically every special interest you can imagine. There are women’s magazines, gourmet cooking magazines, or magazines dealing with gardening, science, cars, motorcycles, computers, modeling, home decorating, fashion, sports, body building, film, theatre, music, news magazines and so on.
I love books. I love to read especially tales to my daughter. I buy books by internet because it’s comfortable and cheaper than I buy books in the bookshops. In my opinion, people prefer watching films to reading. Watching films is less demanding than reading books after a tiring day at work or at school. Although cinema tickets are quite expensive, so are books.
Pople not only watch what is on TV but watch videos and DVDs. It’s better because there isn’t commercial during the film. I understand that commercials are important for channels and sometimes provide useful information for everybody. They can also be quite entertaining, though I hate it when the film that I’m watching is interrupted at the most interesting part with commercials.
In my opinion, TV contributes to our social life. People like talking about TV programmes. For example, they discuss all kinds of information on the characters of soap operas, try to guess what will happen to them in the next episodes and talk about the actors’ and actresses’ private lives. They also like criticising the way presenters talk and dress. I prefer those channels which broadcast documentaries and films on nature, animals and fabulous events. I often watch tale channel with my daughter, we have lots of favourite programmes. I watch the news every day because I like to know what is going on in the world. I also enjoy watching quiz shows and comedies. We go to multiplex cinemas in big plazas where we go to not only for the sake of the film, but also to enjoy ourselves with our friends before or after the film. Usually we have dinner there before the cinema.
I mostly listen to the radio while driving. I like channels which offer programmes with few commercials and lots of music. I also like programmes which provide news every hour or half an hour and information on town traffic and road conditions. Mass media is a phrase often used to describe ways of giving information and entertainment to very large numbers of people. It includes newspapers, advertising and radio and of course, television. Young people prefer films to books. I spend a few hours in front of the TV every day. I always find something interesting to watch. Cartoons and series are my favorites. On weekdays I only watch the afternon programmes, that is, I watch TV for about 2 hours. At weekends, if I am at home, I sometimes watch it all day.
I like the Disney Channel, Prizma and Music Channels. I never miss an episode of my favorite series. My favorurite series are Paula and Paulina, Marichuy. At weekends I like watching cartoons : Smurf, Garfield, Winnie the Pooh and Aladin. I don’t like talk shows and sports. I find them boring.My favourite TV star is Jennifer Aniston.I like going to the cinema, but I rarely get there. I usually go with my friends because my parents never go to the cinema. I like romantic and horror films. Culture and art add aesthetic value to our lives. Cultural events, exhibitions, concerts are ways how people spend their free time. Art is a way of communicating feelings. According to these fields you can enjoy arts at different places such as museums, art galleries, theatres, cinemas, concert halls, churches, castles etc. Artist are people who are gifted in arts, like actors, musicians, conductors, composers, painters, sculptors, writers and poets. There are not only artists, but there are people who enjoy their creations. Cultural events in rural areas are not very frequent, but in many villages exist so-called houses of culture which are the centre of cultural life. Villages also hold so-called village days annually. Folklore is important in a certain folk's life. Traditions, folkways, folk songs are parts of the culture as well. Nowadays people prefer watching a movie to reading a book. It doesn't consume so much time and tickets are even cheaper than a book itself. A movie based on a book usually isn't better, than its foundation but many people prefer these. Music is a hobby, a profession and the part of some people's lifestyle. It accompanies us in our entire life. Mothers sings to their babies some lullabies, on their way to school kids have their headphones on and listen to their favourite music, their parents sing along with the radio in their car. theatre - theatregoers can enjoy live performances, they can watch drama, comedies, tragedies or a musical.cinema - films are shown on the screen, they can have subtitles or may be dubbed. To improve the atmosphere of the films, the producers use a lot of special effects (music, sound, light, voices, 3D effect, stunts). Literature is the art of writing. Among literary opuses are some novels, novellas and short stories, but also biographies and memoirs can be regarded as part of cultural heritage. It is said that writing requires some kind of writing talent, therefore it is the art of creating sentences, paragraphs and even non-existing worlds. In the past people used to build splendid buildings to show the importance and wealth of their owners. Some places are rich in castles, churches, cathedrals, others are rich in pyramids, towers and bridges. The modern age brings two extremes: extravagance and simplicity. An artist who makes sculptures is called a sculptor; he usually displays his statues/busts in visible places - town centres, shopping malls etc. They are important part of public art. Sculptures are made of wood, ceramics, stone, glass or metal. Sculptures were mainly represented in religious sphere (in churches and cathedrals) in the past. People say that visiting galleries and museums is only for the older people. Of course, it takes some time to go through the place and see all the paintings. It requires patience and some knowledge if you want to admire what is displayed. The paintings may vary from the abstract paintings through sceneries, portraits such as Mona Lisa. Graffiti is a writing or drawing that is scribbled, scratched or sprayed on a wall or on other surfaces (often in a public place). Some people consider it as art, however, for the others it is just a self-destructing activity. People with tattoos all over their bodies occur more and more frequently. Their tattoos attract our attention, and the reactions vary from the positive (independent, creative, trendy, tough) to the negative ones (crazy, absentminded). In arts we distinguish various styles such as classical, romantic, impressionist, modern or abstract. The most fabulous pieces of arts are called masterpieces. Traditionally, they use places like museums, galleries for their exhibitions. - art gallery - we can see there exhibitions of classical or modern art (e.g. - museum - we can learn there about the history of a country or about the history of the whole world. concerts - young people usually prefer pop concerts to classical concerts. Az angol film második világháborút követő „realista” irányzatának, az úgynevezett free cinemának és az azt követő new cinemának (csúfnevén: „kitchen sink cinema” [a konyhai mosogató filmjei]) gyökerei az előző részben tárgyalt olasz neorealizmushoz hasonlóan a háborút követő társadalmi krízisben, az átalakulásra való igényben rejlenek. Történeti és társadalmi háttér Anglia elveszítette gyarmatait, nélkülözhetetlenné téve a jelentős átalakulásokat a társadalomban, gazdaságban egyaránt. Az oktatási reform eredményeképpen új társadalmi rétegekből érkező fiatalok válnak szakértelmiségiekké, a hagyományosan rendkívül merev angol osztályviszonyok azonban masszívan ellenálltak a küszöbönálló változásoknak.

Az angol új film stylusa és a kitchen sink cinema gyakran a valóságos helyszíneken, fekete-fehér felvételekkel dolgozott, és a fiatal generáció lázadását, munkásosztálybeli problémáit ábrázolta. A Szombat este, vasárnap reggel a központi alkotás, amely a mozgalom prototípusa lett, miközben a szociális realizmus és dokumentarizmus ötvözésével teremtett új formát. A későbbi korszakokban a londoni társadalom és a swingin London ábrázolása dominált, amíg a dühös fiatalok témája le nem zárult.
