Miért különleges a Cambridge Egyetem finanszírozása?
A Cambridge-i Egyetem az Egyesült Királyság második legnagyobb egyeteme, a világ 5 legjobb intézménye közé tartozik, és rendszeresen az Oxford-i Egyetemet megelőzve foglalja az első helyet az Egyesült Királyság legjobb egyetemi rangsoraiban.
A Cambridge-i Egyetem az angol nyelvű világ egyik legrégebbi intézménye, 1209-ben alapították. Az Oxfordkal összefonódó múltja miatt gyakran Oxbridge névvel illetik.
Cambridge University not only excels in science and engineering but also maintains strong programs in humanities and arts.
A Cambridge-i élet egyik jellegzetes eleme a college-rendszer: Cambridge 31 college-t számlál, amelyek a diákok mindennapjait szervezik.
Az egyetem és a College rendszer
At Cambridge, rather than choosing a hall of residence or dorm, you usually live in a Cambridge College. There are 29 undergraduate Colleges. Each College has its own services, facilities and community.
This includes a dining hall or cafeteria, library, and usually a gym and sports grounds. Your College is where you do a lot of your studying and socialising.
A hallgatók itt laknak, tanulnak és dolgoznak, a saját mikroközösségeikben. Bármelyik hallgató szoros kapcsolatban maradhat saját college-ével a tanév minden szakaszában.
Each College community offers pastoral and academic support. Discover how you’ll be supported by your College.
Oxfordhoz hasonlóan a Cambridge-i Egyetem is egyedülálló oktatási rendszeréről ismert, amely a heti rendszerességű „tutorialok” formájában valósul meg. A Cambridge presztízséhez hozzátartozik az oktatási módszere is, a tutorial rendszer; κάθε bachelor képzésben egy vezető oktató segíti a hallgatókat.
A tutorial rendszer lehetővé teszi a személyes, intenzív tanár-diák kapcsolatot, ahol a vezető oktató segíti a hallgató tanulmányait és felkészíti őket a kihívásokra.
Cambridge University not only excels in science and engineering but also maintains strong programs in humanities and arts. Az egyetem számos diák- és sportklubot kínál.
Milyen költségeket kell finanszírozni?
International student costs at Cambridge include:
- tuition fees.
- College fees
- living expenses
Visa applications require you to prove in advance that you can finance all these costs. Colleges also ask for financial guarantees.
Going to university is an investment in your future. You'll need to consider the cost of your tuition and your living (or ‘maintenance’) costs.
You'll need to make sure you have enough money to cover your living expenses for the whole duration of your course. If you have dependants, you'll need to cover their living expenses too.
Before you're admitted to the University, you'll need to confirm that you can meet your living costs (the ‘maintenance requirement’) in addition to your course fees. If you're made a conditional offer, you'll be asked to do this by completing a Financial Undertaking Form.
Nemzetközi hallgatói tandíjak 2026-os belépéshez
Tuition fees for international students depend on the course you’re studying.
Please note: fees listed are per year and are fixed for the duration of the course for international students undertaking a year abroad, the tuition fee payable to the University of Cambridge during the year abroad will be 50% of the full fee for international students studying Medicine or Veterinary Medicine, the tuition fee for Year 3 will correspond to the course taken that year - please refer to the course page for details.
The fee will be determined by the fee for that course in the year the student enrolled onto the pre-clinical part of their course.

College-díjak
All international/overseas fee status students, and those Home fee status students who aren't eligible for tuition fee support (eg affiliated students), normally have to pay an annual College fee in addition to University tuition fees.
This covers the cost to your College of providing a range of educational, domestic and pastoral services and support.
College fees may vary between Colleges and in many cases are fixed for the duration of your course. College fees for 2026-27 are published in the following document: Undergraduate tuition fees 2026-27.
College fees for 2027-28 will be published here no later than 1 October 2026.
Home fee status students who are eligible for public support don't normally have to pay an additional College fee, unless they're studying for a second undergraduate degree (affiliated students). International students should take this fee into account when planning their finances.
'Living costs' cover whatever you need to pay for, excluding tuition fees, while you're at university. For example, accommodation, food, course costs/study materials, personal expenses and transport.
Living costs refer to anything you need to pay for while you're at university, other than your tuition fees. This includes accommodation, food, study costs and personal expenses.
Using this information, we’ve provided some estimated monthly living costs. These are just a guide and will vary depending on your lifestyle while you’re at university.
However, they should give you a good idea of how much you need to budget. Below you'll find indicative costs for 2027-28.
| Költségkategória | Becsült havi összeg |
|---|---|
| Food | £255 |
| Accommodation | £880 |
| Personal items | £75 |
| Social activities | £85 |
| Study costs | £10 |
| Miscellaneous | £25 |
| Total | £1,330 |
Please note: these costs take into account projected inflation for 2027-28.
The estimated cost of living in Cambridge for a month is £1,330. For 9 months, you should need around £11,970. For 12 months, you should need around £15,960.
Most students will only be in Cambridge during term time (approximately 9 months). If you want to stay in Cambridge during vacations, you should budget for the full year.
Please note that maintenance rates are set more than a year in advance based on inflation rates at the time. This means the cost of living may have risen before you arrive in Cambridge.
These costs were calculated in May 2026 according to the Bank of England inflation forecast at that time. Figures are rounded up to the nearest £10. They are intended to be indicative but are reviewed in the November following the original calculation.
Posztgraduális hallgatók becsült költségei 2027-28-ban
For 2027/28, we estimate that a full-time student without dependants will need around £20,700 per year, or £15,525 for nine months, to cover basic living costs.
These estimates are based on a detailed survey of postgraduate students and their spending. The average monthly costs are detailed in the table.
| Költségkategória | Becsült havi összeg |
|---|---|
| Food | £305 |
| Accommodation | £925 |
| Personal items | £175 |
| Social activities | £160 |
| Study costs | £35 |
| Miscellaneous | £125 |
| Total | £1,725 |
Our estimate of living costs for 2027/28 was made in May 2026 using Bank of England inflation forecasts. As these are calculated in advance, living costs could end up being higher by the time you arrive in Cambridge, or during your studies if your course is longer than 12 months.
We recommend you budget for a 3% inflationary increase annually for courses over a year.
The annual estimate shown above forms part of the ‘minimum financial undertaking’ you agree to in the Financial Undertaking Form. The figures in the table reflect the spending of an average (median) student. Your actual costs may be higher or lower depending on your lifestyle and personal choices.
Lakhatás és kollégiumi díjak
You will usually live in College accommodation. This will be on the main College site or elsewhere in the city.
Accommodation costs vary from College to College. They also usually depend on the size of your room and whether it's en suite.
You'll usually live in one of our Colleges for the duration of your course. Most Colleges offer a range of accommodation with different facilities and often at different price points.
One of the advantages of College accommodation is that you won't need to pay rent for a full year - all of our Colleges have shorter contracts available.
Minimum contract lengths in 2025-26 range from 27 to 39 weeks. Check individual College websites for details about the facilities their accommodation offers, how much it costs and what contract lengths might be available.
Accommodation costs will usually cover:
- water, electricity and heating
- cleaning
- internet access
- basic self-catering facilities
Typically, you won't have to pay 12 months of rent per year. Our accommodation contracts are around 27 to 39 weeks.
Applying for accommodation. You don’t need to apply for accommodation separately. Accommodation is guaranteed for 3 or 4 years for individual students without children.
This accommodation will be in College property. Check individual College pages for details.
Étkezés a College-ban
All Colleges offer catered accommodation as standard. They have dining facilities where you can buy cafeteria meals.
Some Colleges may require you to eat a certain number of meals in the College cafeteria or dining hall each term. Basic self-catering facilities are also available if you want to cook for yourself.
You’ll eat lots of your meals in College, whether that’s a quick meal in the cafeteria or a more formal three-course ‘formal hall’.
Formal halls give you the opportunity to dine in style for a very reasonable price. They usually take place at least once a week and are completely optional.
You can have a three-course dinner in College at a reasonable price. These are known as 'formal halls'. Usually, they happen a few times per week and are optional.
Individual cafeteria-style meals typically cost £3-£10. 'Formal halls' usually cost around £12-£25 at most Colleges.
Some Colleges levy a separate charge towards the running costs of the College kitchens - a Kitchen Fixed Charge. In 2025-26, this cost ranged from £225 to £260 per year in those Colleges that make such a charge.
Some Colleges also have a minimum meal charge, which is paid in advance and provides credit for meals bought in College (see individual College websites for details).
Costs of meals will vary so you should check individual College websites for details, but in most cases, food in College is great value.
Tanulmányi és személyes kiadások
There are some general course costs that apply across all courses. Details of these are included on our study costs page.
You can find details of additional course costs specific to your chosen course on the relevant course entries.
Some courses have additional costs beyond your University Composition Fee. For example, if your course involves expensive laboratory materials, you may be expected to contribute towards the cost of your research.
Some courses may also have additional expenses for conferences or field trips, or special equipment and materials. Check the finance tab of your course page for details of additional costs.
Payment for these additional course costs is arranged through your Department, not the Student Registry or your College.
The University’s numerous libraries and IT facilities help to keep your costs down, and many Colleges and some departments offer grants to help with particular costs.
What you spend on food, clothing, transport etc depends on your lifestyle. However, there are lots of free recreational facilities plus loads of College-based and student-run activities that don’t cost very much.
What’s more, Cambridge is a small place so transport is cheap or free - most students walk or cycle and there’s a ‘Universal’ bus service that offers discounted fares to students.
Megélhetési költségek eltartottakkal
Students with accompanying dependants. If you have dependants, additional provision should be made. You should allow approximately 50% of the above estimate for an adult and 30% per child.
The financial condition specified in your offer letter takes into account your statement about accompanying dependants in your application form.
You cannot bring dependants to Cambridge before providing proof of financial support and getting the consent of your College.
Childcare costs. The cost of childcare in Cambridge is extremely high.
Full-time nursery care for pre-school children is very expensive for students ineligible for UK Government support. These costs are in addition to the figures requested for your financial guarantee.
You can find out more about childcare in Cambridge on the University's Childcare Office website. This also gives potential costs for University-run day nurseries, but note that many private nurseries in Cambridge will have higher fees.
Érkezési és induló költségek
Starting your studies in Cambridge can involve additional costs, particularly if you're coming from overseas.
These may include:
- Travel to Cambridge
- Visa and immigration health surcharge fees
- Other costs associated with settling in
These costs are not included in the estimates above, so you should budget for them separately.
New students should also allow for settling-in costs, including visas, travel and equipment.
Planning for these expenses in advance can help you avoid unexpected financial difficulties.
Travel to and from Cambridge is not included in the maintenance amount required in your offer.
Part-time és kutatói hallgatók pénzügyi tervezése
If you’re a research student, you need to make sure you have enough funds for the full duration of your course (at least 3 years and up to 4 years).
Your living costs will rise with inflation, and your financial planning should take this into account, in particular for multi-year courses.
Part-time students. We do not provide an estimate of maintenance costs for part-time students, as these vary widely between different home locations and circumstances.
You'll still need to cover your living costs on a full-time basis throughout your studies. For a PhD, this may be for up to 7 years.
If you are offered a place for part-time study, you'll need to estimate your own expenses when completing the Financial Undertaking Form.
The form asks for a single estimate covering the duration of your course. If your course has a range of possible durations, base your estimate on the minimum period, but make sure you have a plan for if you need longer to complete your course.
When calculating your estimate, you should consider:
- Housing costs
- Utility bills
- Everyday living - food, transport, clothes and furniture
- Healthcare
- Tax and any insurance policies
- Lifestyle costs, such as eating out, entertainment and other personal expenses
- Family costs: including childcare and other costs for dependants
- Study-related costs: particularly travel and accommodation for time spent in Cambridge
You'll need to consider the cost of your tuition and your living (or ‘maintenance’) costs. These amounts can seem daunting. But there's lots of support available to help you finance your studies.
Financial support. There are various sources of financial support available to help towards the costs at Cambridge. This includes government loans, University support and College awards.
Cambridge scholarships, bursaries and financial support. UK student finance (government support).
Visa applications require you to prove in advance that you can finance all these costs. Colleges also ask for financial guarantees.
University of Oxford has similar distinctions in EU and non-EU tuition differences, with English-language prestige and large college system.
Cambridge University suggests that tuition is structured to distinguish UK/EU and international students, with fixed annual fees for many courses.
University of Cambridge adattípusokhoz hasonlóan Cambridge és Oxford közötti párhuzamok gyakran előtérbe kerülnek a döntéshozatal során.

- éves egyetemi tandíj;
- éves College-díj;
- kollégiumi vagy magánlakhatási költség;
- étkezés és esetleges Kitchen Fixed Charge;
- tanulmányi anyagok, felszerelések és utazások;
- vízum- és bevándorlási egészségügyi pótdíjak;
- Cambridge-be történő utazás;
- személyes kiadások és közlekedés;
- inflációval növelt tartalék;
