Education in Hungary is mostly public, run by the Ministry of Human Being Resources. Traditionally the school year starts in September. Preschool education and learning are compulsory to all kids between 3 and 6 years old. Then school participation is also compulsory until the age of sixteen. Elementary education normally lasts for 8 years. Subjects are literature, grammar, mathematics, music, art, physical education, environmental studies (from 1st to fifth grade), biology (from 6th grade), geography (from 6th grade), history (from 5th grade), history of art, physics (from 6th grade), chemistry (from 7th grade), one or two foreign languages (usually English, German, or French). Before 1990, Russian was compulsory. Secondary education includes three typical sorts of schools concentrated on different academic degrees: the Gymnasium registers the most talented youngsters and also prepares students for higher education; the secondary vocational schools for intermediate students last 4 years as well as the technical school prepares students for higher education and the world of work. According to the objectives of the Bologna process the level structure of tertiary education is based on three cycles. Nearly all study fields lead initially to a Bachelor’s level (normally 3 years), and after a further study period to a Master’s level (2 years). However, there are some exceptions: medicine, pharmacy, dental, and veterinary studies, architecture, law, teacher training, and certain arts-, crafts- and design-related study programs, which retain a long single-cycle structure of 5 or 6 years of study. Foreign students in Hungary. Hungary attracts foreign students from both EU and non-EU countries. Three quarters of the students arriving in Hungary show up from simply 10 nations, while one quarter of the students gets here from another 100 countries. At the end of the upper secondary courses, pupils pass the secondary school exit exam. The national policy for language education entertains different options. Language learning starts at elementary level with at least three lessons per week. English is the most popular and most demanded language followed by German and French. A special program - introduced in the 1990s in Hungary and very popular ever since - is bilingual education i.e. a program where, besides reinforced language learning, at least three other subjects must be taught in the target language. In the bilingual system, language learning starts in the first grade with five English lessons per week. Besides reinforced language learning, three other subjects are taught in the target language. The subjects taught in the target language at our school are Art, Music and Physical Education in the first two years. Starting in the third grade, students learn Science in English as well. In grades 5-8 Cultural Studies, Science, Art and Craft, Geography and Biology are taught in English. Our aim is to ensure children learn English at a very early age. At the age of six or seven, children are curious, talkative and motivated to learn. These characteristics are essential as the children will be acquiring knowledge through interactive play. The teachers provide a fun and energetic foundation for the children to learn and grow in their language development. Common methods teachers use to encourage speech in the target language included (but are not limited to) rhythm, music, dancing and manual works. In the first and second grades, the main task is speech and vocabulary developing. Our hope for the senior section is that each student will develop the skills necessary to perform at the intermediate level in the target language. We offer several programs to our pupils such as music classes, cultural enrichment and other events and competitions to assist in character development. Getting into the Bilingual Education Program. To take part in the bilingual class, parents are required to complete an application form which is available on the webpage. Applications are accepted not only from Velence, but also from other towns and villages. The application form must be sent to the school by February. At that time a date will be given for the child to take an ability test. The test is designed to measure the child in several areas: vocabulary, expressiveness, memory, logical mind and persistence.

Az európai felsőoktatási rendszerben a Bologna folyamat alapján a három ciklusra épülő szerkezetről van szó: alapképzés (Bachelor), mesterképzés (Master) és a doktori fokozat. A magyarországi adottságok sajátos kivételeket tartalmazhatnak ezen a téren bizonyos szakokon. Angol és német nyelvű programok széles skálája elérhető, és egyre több csereprogram érkezik hozzánk. Starting in the 2026/2027 academic year, our Hungarian-English bilingual program will be offered at Budapest 13th, Csata Primary School. This program follows an immersive learning system. In the mornings, children in our bilingual program participate in traditional academic classes, while afternoons are dedicated to an English-language environment led by native speakers. The BGC English School Program is an innovative bilingual educational model that stands out among other schools. Our English-language activities are age-appropriate, interactive, and designed to be fun. Students learn in a stress-free environment, receiving positive feedback to help them achieve their language goals. Each year, many families apply to join our program. We’re delighted to offer two Hungarian-English bilingual classes each year for first-grade students at Csata Primary School in the 13th District. Before applying, please familiarize yourself with the BGC English School Program’s methodology, application process, and fees. We welcome applications from children who are of school age, enjoy group activities, are open to new experiences, and are motivated to learn with their peers. Although our language-teaching methodology is innovative and child-centered, it may be challenging for children who need a smaller, specialized educational setting. Submit an introductory letter in which parents introduce the child and explain their choice of the bilingual class. Optional: Include a kindergarten report. Csata Primary School offers the “Smart-Club” program, designed for children applying to the BGC Hungarian-English bilingual class. The four-session program is run by our teachers and introduces future first graders to their new environment. Participation in the “Smart-Party” is a required part of the application process. Parents can register for this session when completing the pre-registration form if their child is set to start first grade in September 2026. During the “Smart-Party”, children will participate in small group activities led by our educators.
