Az angol család témakör feldolgozásához a családi összejövetelek, a vér szerinti rokonok és a házassággal szerzett rokonok elnevezései adnak jó alapot. A legfontosabb kifejezések gyakorlásakor a szövegértésre, a szókincsre és a helyes kiejtésre is érdemes figyelmet fordítani.

A vérszerinti rokonaink angol elnevezését már tudjuk. (Figyelj a ‘nephew’ és a ‘niece’ szavak helyes kiejtésére… és persze a többi szóéra is!) Most pedig tanuljuk meg a nem vérszerinti rokonaink, tehát a házasságkötéssel szerzett rokonaink elnevezéseit is!

Since I moved abroad, I usually visit my hometown about once a year. This year, I was in town for about two weeks at the end of July and, of course, we had a family get-together. These get-togethers are always held at my parents’ house, because they have enough space to accommodate many people.

We never have formal dinners. Usually everyone brings something to eat or drink. This year, for example, my aunt Mary, prepared a huge tin of lasagne, while my uncle John brought cakes and ice-cream cones.

There is always a lot of talking and laughing. This year, as always, we brought up old childhood memories and funny anecdotes. It’s really great to be a part of such a big family!

A családtagok angol elnevezései

A házassággal ‘szerzett’ rokonainkat angolul ‘in-laws’-nak nevezzük. A ‘law’ szó egyébként törvényt jelent.

A „-in-law” használata

Az angolban az ‘in-law’ kifejezés a házasság révén kialakult rokoni kapcsolatot jelöli. A többes számú ‘in-laws’ általánosan a házassággal szerzett rokonokra utal, míg az egyes családtagok megnevezésében a rokonságot jelölő szóhoz kapcsolódik az ‘in-law’.

A családtagok megnevezéseinek gyakorlásakor különösen fontos a pontos kiejtés. (Figyelj a ‘nephew’ és a ‘niece’ szavak helyes kiejtésére… és persze a többi szóéra is!)
